Steal These Ideas

Being bold isn’t easy. If it were, we’d see the evidence of it among the many and not the few. As a student of brand and creative strategy, I see the product of the connection between our fears and our tendency to embrace mediocrity. With 25 years building brands and teams in the agency space, I want to explore ways to see challenges as opportunities and to discover how to harness what holds us back.

Critics or Creators –  Brands Need Innovation But Hire the Wrong People.

As brands are being challenged by their competitors more frequently it requires constant innovation across every aspect of the business. From HR to operations, management will be challenged in every aspect of their roles to re-invent norms.

If you are a leader of these teams ask yourself the question how many critics or creators do you have?

Creators are always looking to invent new, and are comfortable putting themselves out there sharing new ideas and thoughts.

Critics prefer to wait until others share and come alive when there is a need for input on a decision. If managed positively their critique can often improve ideas. On the negative side they can stifle new thoughts.

Both are needed in an organization but what should the balance be? I would suggest there is more value in ideas and fresh thought.
